Craig M. Bereznoff, DO
Medical Director – Physician & Surgeon

http://www.liim.org/craig_door.jpg

Dr. Bereznoff has been in Practice since 1983. He began his career in Aerospace and Environmental Medicine  while Serving as a Flight Surgeon for the 3rd Marine Corp Air Wing where he was voted Flight Surgeon of the year.  Initially slated to move onto a career as an astronaut - physician, his path in this direction was cut short when he developed cancer in 1985.  Having experienced and battled his cancer, he began to see, feel and understand what patients who are ill experience.   This led him further along the path of empathy that few physicians can have without having been involved as a patient in the health care system. With the encouragement of the Marine Corps Aviators in his squadrons, he left his position as a flight surgeon and opened his practice in Family Medicine and Surgery in Longmont , Colorado in 1986.

Lessons learned, as a patient, have contributed to his practice growing over the past years to what it is today.   Dr. Bereznoff has seen the benefits of what complementary and alternative medicine has to offer as well as what role the spirit of the individual has to do with their health and ability to recover and change their life.   He recognizes what role the spirit plays in creating illness within the individual. As a result, he has progressively incorporated services into his practice that provide a more comprehensive health care environment for his patients.

The mainstay of his practice is conventional medical and surgical care wherein he recognizes the age old medical axiom; "first do no harm".   Dr. Bereznoff has been blessed with an intuitive ability to see what is wrong, without always needing to "run every test in the book".   He has always said, " I treat patients, not numbers or pictures".

Dr. Bereznoff sees state of the art medical care as being the ARTFULL application of the most up to date medical and
scientific knowledge.   In his practice, you are not just a symptom, you are a whole person who has a family, a job, a physical and emotional life; all of which are impacted by your current state of health.

He believes in preventing disease before being required to treat it. Dr. Bereznoff has always believed in what Sir William Osler, M.D.,one of the four physicians who founded Johns Hopkins Hospital, said in the late 1800's,
‘…listen to your patient, he is telling you the diagnosis.’     Listening is something many physicians seem too busy to do today.

It is with this background and principles that he teaches the externs, interns and residents that you may encounter in the practice.   Dr. Bereznoff is a clinical associate professor for the University of Colorado Medical School and 3 other medical schools. He feels honored to be able to teach his students what it means and how to be a great physician.
